1. List of Sevens

Jack Hastings and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

You have seven different ways of making me blue
Seven things that I need to do
There's seven stars that tell me true
That I am the only one meant for you

I'll give you seven sunny days every week
Seven sweet kisses on the side of your cheek
Seven shiny diamonds and seven white pearls
I'll give you seven heavens if you'll be my girl

Number one,
I'm gonna love you 'til the end of time
I'm gonna tell you how you look so fine
Number two,
I'm gonna buy you an amethyst ring
I'm gonna take you where the angels sing
Number three,
I'm gonna rock you 'til the dawn's early light
I'm gonna roll you at the end of the night
Number four,
Well you know what I'm-a gonna do
I'm gonna make all your dreams come true
Number five,
Seven little green men came to me one night
They told me seven secrets and seven white lies
Number six,
We're gonna take a journey with my seven-league boots
To the seventh planet, Uranus is calling you

Number seven,
I've got seven letters, they'll have to do
Eye Ell Yu Vee Wy Oh Yu
Eye Ell Yu Vee Wy Oh Yu
Eye Ell Yu Vee Wy Oh Yu
Eye Ell Yu Vee Wy Oh Yu
Eye Ell Yu Vee Wy Oh Yu
Eye Ell Yu Vee Wy Oh Yu

2. The Seventh Blunder

William Fuller and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

Show the press who is boss, Someone else takes the loss
If there are any threats, it's just part of the cost
'Cause the ones with a stin-it Will be born every minute
They just never learned You don't need 'em to win it

Chorus
A bull charging round the shop
A hog rooting in the slop
Seven targets for seven guns
And the blunderbuss hits every one
Seventh blunder blender blunder seventh blender blunder….

He bought plenty of girls And through golf clubs they swirl
Under gold chandeliers With their chocolate and pearls
He learned how to prevail And it's gotten so stale.
To the people who carp: He has won, you have failed

Chorus

You will see him build it though it gets a bit dicey
It just isn't his fault; it's a little pricey
Technology's fine, He can share every line
And researchers he knows breed away your spine

Chorus

The church of the greedy: final days for the needy
And he can stand tall On his side of the wall
Show the press who is boss; Someone else takes the loss
If there are any threats It's just part of the cost

Final Chorus
A very modern kind of winner
A very virtuous kind of sinner
Comes up sevens on the slot machine, his mob
Takes him to task with a brand new scheme
Seventh blunder blender blunder…Seventh blunder

3. Seventh Heaven

Jack Hastings

MP3 Audio File

When I’m feeling tired and sad and low
There's a little place where I can go
They have all the answers but don't ask any questions
Down at the dive called The Seventh Heaven

If Perplexo's tending bar, you can count on him
To add a little extra to your tonic and gin
He don't hold much with conversation
He is a master in the art of evasion

Chorus
I'm building a ladder with seven thousand rungs
Gonna climb up to the heaven where we're all forever young
Gonna find my way to cloud number nine
I'll be so happy, to leave this world behind

Down at Seventh Heaven the jukebox is playing
Jim and Jimi, Janis and Kurt Cobain
The guy in the back room has got plenty of glaze
To keep us twirling round in a sweet purple haze

At the Seventh Heaven, you might notice a smell
Like sulfur and brimstone, a little taste of hell
But we'll keep on dancing our desperate jive
'Cause no one ever gets out of this place alive

Repeat Chorus

4. Showdown on Seventh Avenue

William Fuller and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

My feet hurt crossing the cold wet street
So this was what was left of the season.
I tripped at the entrance as I heard someone cry
And I stumbled in, confused and freezin'

The Sudz and Seventh Tavern was packed that night
"Wake up for me, Henry" was what I heard
She was calling from a booth that had no light
I walked over and her words were slurred

Chorus
She had painted a picture that seemed so right
But I never did get a good view
There were too many heartbreaks and too many fights
And then the showdown on 7th Avenue

She took out a tissue from her little plastic purse
And after coughing once or twice blew a hole in it
Then from the back of the bar I heard a laugh and a curse
As I grabbed the side of my arm where I'd been hit

Something exploded behind me and a shock wave hummed
Now she was holding her rosary and her phone
And the place was fierce with screams and panic
As she begged me not to leave her alone

Chorus

When I left that night there was a nice shower falling
And I think I must have cried into the morning
Only one of us walked out from the carnage that night
From a future disappeared with no warning

Repeat Chorus

5. Jasy

Spencer Kimball and William Fuller

MP3 Audio File

My dear Jasy
You said I'd sleep
My dear Jasy
My prettiest of the seven cursed

When is siesta time?

O Salvador
Where could you be
O Salvador
Nowhere near Guatemala

When is siesta time?

My traveling friend
Where do the trucks go
My youngest friend
To the Norte gold

When is siesta time?

Our suffering souls
Just seven days
These suffering souls
To the promised land

6. The Cold Blue Hand

William Fuller and Jack Hastings

MP3 Audio File

Times were worse than bad but I heard there was a card game that night
The Suds and Seven Tavern was not a place that I much liked
But against my better judgement I strolled right in
Flashed some stolen money, and I bought me a gin
And it was there in the back room, I played the cold blue hand

The four other players were seasoned, all stone faced and hard
Forty-seven minutes in I swear Satan had been shuffling my cards
Then I got three sevens, an ace and a five
Something switched up inside me and I had to decide
All the air left the room, as I looked down at my cold blue hand

Bridge
Old Pat the gimp gave the evil eye as I just stared
Funky Phyllis snorted, Crazy Ronnie Braxton just didn't care
Twitchy Patty Porter screamed, I'd better make my move
I traded in a card and finally hit my groove
Then all hell broke loose as I was laying down my cold blue hand

There's a kind of blue hand that's a gateway
from the sorrow and the sinning
New dimensions, a threshold; "my end is my beginning"
I thought of ouroboros as I felt my tail get bitten
Four sevens and an ace were there where I'd been sittin'
That blast ended me but it didn't touch my cold blue hand
That blast ended me but I still played my cold blue hand
Gone in a flash, and the slap of that cold blue hand

7. Seven Grooms for Seven Sisters

Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

We were the queens of Bihar a century ago
Anyone you could name my family would know
Then grandfather went partners in the indigo trade
Where a smooth operator stole away all he'd made

Chorus
The auction block never goes cold here
The best head of cattle wear suits
And the rustlers we've paid for a full-scale raid
Of the cream of the telecommute

My sisters and I have a fine family name
And we deserve more respect from some men we could name
Just because we don't drink from a gold samovar
Shouldn't mean a bride price of a house and a car

Chorus

So we had to look hard for the grooms that would do
And the people who make sure they come aren't cheap too
So to those who complain that we've just gone too far
You be happy with husbands so far below par

Chorus

8. The Seven Year Itch

Gary Sears and Spencer Kimball

MP3 Audio File

You can't bring it back, that first year fire
Or that second-year beach, mature desire
I can't make you feel the warmth all around
The friends and the places, the fun of things we found

All around you now are glittering caves
Forbidden treasures shadowing the love we can't save
We're down to business, a business to sell
And a long trip down the windy road, a twisty road to

Hello new life, she can see it in the wings
The stranger, the finer, the cooler, the dangerous things

All I'd tell you now, you just can't hear
The frequency's too high, or the volume hurts the ears
All you'd tell me now wouldn't soften the blow
The message garbled but it's clearly time to go

The seventh year beckons with a sharper call
Something happened in the sixth, but I don't remember it at all
The seventh year road lined with tall green trees
Or poison oak? or crabgrass? or only swarms of fleas?

We can't bring it back...

9. Across the Seven Cs

Jack Hastings and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

I sailed across the Seven C's
By the light of the constellations
While carrion crows and cormorants called
Of the calico king's coronation

I hired both the cannibal twins
Chaos and Clamor by name
And they picked their teeth with the bones of the dead
With a cool and callous disdain

Chorus
Someone called for the Captain
And I realized it was me
Catatonic I was, crying on my couch
At this latest controversy

While Camilla cried for mercy
Carlotta was just confused
Claire stole away in my chameleon barge
To the Cape of Centrifuge

When all was said and all was done
Complicated yet concluded
I confessed to the cardinal all my sins
And made a case for my collusion

Chorus

Then I filled my pipe with crack cocaine
And I filled my cup with gin
I looked for comfort in the clouds
And saw the Cheshire cat's grin

With cinnamon and chamomile
I started once again
To contemplate the cosmos
From the comfort of my curious cabin

Chorus

10. This Is Not A Song

William Fuller and Gary Sears

MP3 Audio File

The door, the wind, the bird, the valise
The horse, the clock, the vase, the release
How I felt for you I could not convey
With the words you heard in that awkward way

When I saw your picture, I thought it might last
The ties that bind, the unforgettable contrast
You saw me then but now you won't
You wanted to know me but now you don't

That was a morning by a foggy bay
And this is day like any other day
The sublime contradiction: you've done nothing wrong
This is not an excuse and this is not a song

11. The Seventh Sister

Jack Hastings and William Fuller

MP3 Audio File

Electra worked at a truck-stop cafe
Off Absalom Road near Santa Fe
Held her power far away, Her beauty never on display
Always bright and gay, A mask to hide the pain

One day a cowboy sauntered in
With shining eyes and the Devil's grin
Confident that he could win Electra's heart would turn to him
Steal her love and gone again, "Set 'em up there, Mickey Finn!"

Chorus
You've heard tell of the Seventh Son of the Seventh Son
Haven't you, mister?
And You've heard tell of the chosen one, of conjuring
And the things he's done, mister
You've heard tell of the seventh son
But have you heard tell of the Seventh Sister?

Electra, she was more than wise
And had her fill of arrogant lies
Stood aloof and laughed at his deflated pride
His vanity had failed him; His anger realized

Chorus

They found his body in the snow
Blue and white in the moonlit glow
No one to tell, no one to know
How the ice had cracked and the winds had blown

12. Last Call at the Sudz and Seventh Tavern

William Fuller

MP3 Audio File

I remember it like yesterday
How we talked and smoked and drank our way
Through nights at the Horsehead Tavern
They were Filled with wonder

Years later I can feel my skin still crawl
And the guilt and craving haven't stopped at all
These days it's the Sudz and Seventh
Gonna fill it with thunder

Chorus
I'll walk in to see the lovers laughing in the booths
In the back will be all the card sharks swimming around the truth
The rest of us will just sat there with helpless needy eyes
Waiting for the last call to see who survives

I'll take a drink and write my note
Strap on my vest, put on my coat
One flick of the switch
And they will pay

I was the man you couldn't see
But the blast'll pay back what they did to me
I'm sorry but I can't make it
Even one more day

13. 4 + 3 = 6

Spencer Kimball and Jack Hastings

MP3 Audio File

They were just a couple of regular guys
Lookin' for a good time
And maybe one or two of them wild girls
Could make the whole night rhyme
You see, Eddie and Nate were buskers
And they had just the right hooks
To reel sultry Shana and sweet Keri
Into their history books

Chorus
And so it seemed like destiny
And fate that all these four
Would sail across the Seven Seas
To far away Singapore

They pooled their money and figured it out
And then they found a way
They could pay for their passage to a distant land
Though they wouldn't have a place to stay
Three days seemed the perfect time
To dream their Orient dream
With no reason to wait or bide their time
They got on with the scheme

Bridge
(Night one)
They got some rice
And slept on a lawn
(Night two)
Eddie found for Shana
A broken chess pawn
(Night three)
Keri said to Nate
My heart's about gone
Maybe now it's time to go…

Now Nate was an outlaw painter
And loved his spray paint can
And to see his name on a bullet train
Was part of his secret plan
But they busted him and caned him
Chastised for a vandal's deed
It was then he vowed to strike them back
Astride a motorized steed

Chorus

Suddenly it grew quiet
As two cops in blue came forth
Then our four plus two were gone from the earth
Swallowed up by a secret door
But the numbers didn't add up
The formula, just a scrawl
Four plus three and take away six
Leaves one to take the fall

Outro
So then what gets them to seven?
Is it three plus three plus none?
There's an empty space where the last should be
There ain't no six plus one

14. The Bastard's List

Jack Hastings

MP3 Audio File

This my list of sevens
All the things that I have done
That made you so unhappy
And left you all undone

Seven times I made you cry
Seven times I told you lies
Seven times I yelled at you
Seven times told you we were through

Seven times I left you stranded
Seven times left you empty-handed
Seven times I stole from you
Seven times I unlaced your shoes

Seven times I cheated on you
Seven times I spit in your food
Seven times I blocked your calls
Seven times I made you crawl

This my list of sevens
All the things that I have done
That made you so unhappy
And left us both undone
